VO2, MAX & US

Normally a comma does not separate VO2 and Max.

Purpose of the phrase VO2 max — or your oxygen uptake — is to show how much oxygen your body absorbs and uses while exercising in a high capacity aerobic or cardiorespiratory manner.

V is for volume, O2 is for oxygen and max is for maximum.


Some of us are slower than others!

As you can see from this Cleveland Clinic article, VO2max is calculated by performing a cardiopulmonary exercise test at your doctor’s office or exercise medicine lab.

VO2max decreases as we age. Yet oxygen intake throughout our body is essential to Vibrant Longevity – the theme of these posts.
