What did practicing the piano, a sport or some other pursuit when we were kids have to do with health and fitness today?
We learned the benefit of repetition as practice.
Today the body’s basic movements, shown below as the Daily Eight, need constant repetition – or we lose the ability to do them.
- Standing Tall.
- Kneeling Down.
- Bending Over (hip hinge.)
- Sitting On Haunches (squatting.)
- Reaching Up, Out, Back or Down.
- Rotating.
- Pushing Away.
- Pulling Toward.
“Repetition” might feel boring or dull. The word “Practice,” though, gives direction….a sense of preparing for a challenging event. Practicing the Daily Eight inspires performance in everyday activities. They supercharge life.
For a head start on our body’s basic movements we could use author Chris Crowley’s PDF series of daily warm-up exercises, which also are found as a “Cheat Sheet” on Crowley’s Youngernextyear.com website.
Apply the exercises sparingly. We practice a few minutes a day. Then soon the body clicks and movement opens our world. WF!
