PENDULUM

We become aware of Pendulums through children and backyard swings or by playing certain sports:

1. The bowler’s arm swings back and forth in pendulum to create momentum and direction before releasing the ball;

2. The golfer’s lead shoulder drops down for the putt, setting into motion a pendulum sway of the arms and club so the putter begins a rhythmic arc toward the ball;

3. The pool player swings his forearm – cue stick in hand – in perfect pendulum, creating a stroke that sends the cue ball spinning into an object ball that rolls into a pocket on the pool table.

Pendulums reveal how our world works. They also indicate the occasional tendency of a situation to oscillate between one extreme and another.1

Applying the Pendulum concept of extremes to our Fitness Life describes big activity swings followed by “can’t seem to get out of the door for a short walk” sluggishness.

Mainly, though, Pendulums emanate a natural, predictable, comforting cadence, just as metronomes provide a regular beat for people practicing musical instruments.

We each have an internal Pendulum. Listen to it. Feel it. Give it half a chance.

Fitness will find its “Life wants me to move!” desire through our Pendulum’s rhythm. WF!
