Today we leap on the public health Bandwagon regarding this week’s May 17th World Hypertension Day.
You will find source links regarding how to prevent or minimize Hypertension, also known as High Blood Pressure, throughout this post.
Hypertension is the number one risk factor for death globally, according to the World Heart Federation‘s website, affecting more than 1 billion people.
High Blood Pressure accounts for about half of all heart disease and stroke-related deaths worldwide. Hypertension does not cause any symptoms on its own, which is why it’s often referred to as “the silent killer.”
Quoting from the United Nations World Health Organization, here are the things that increase the risk of having high blood pressure:
1. Older age.
2. Genetics.
3. Being overweight or obese.
4. High-salt diet.
5. Not being physically active.
6. Drinking too much alcohol.
Since our TrueToMyBody website is all about Vibrant Longevity, we welcome the Older age listed as #1 above.
Plus, Genetics is the hand we were dealt at birth.
However, everything else on the List of Six, is under our control and manageable.
Never do we make light of how difficult Lifestyle changes can be once daily behaviors have become mind/body HABITS.
The body may scream resistance against physiological change required to attain a blood pressure level that is “good for us.”
Do not despair.
We are not alone.
Medical, Civic, Non-profit, informal Community and Spiritual Resources abound to help us make healthy choices.
I am here…encouraging, cheering you on in the quest for the best self we can become. WF!
