Life is a Journey, not a Destinationwrote Ralph Waldo Emerson in his book Self-Reliance.

Not to argue with a literary genius such as Emerson…but for our day-to-day Health and Fitness Purpose….Destination Out-Performs Journey.

Children’s Educational Farm Game Maze

Even though wandering can be fun as in the children’s game shown above, it is Destination that gives a Metabolic Efficiency1 boost to our walks.

Destination equals Direction equals Purpose. It gives us a sense of Get Out the Door and Get To It.

If we don’t have a specific Destination in mind, we might be a little less motivated to begin the walks we planned for ourselves at beginning of the week.

The Destination for my Metabolic Efficiency walk, which is a brisk – not too hard – point under breathless pace, is exactly one mile from my Leisure World ((LW) Seal Beach apartment.

Early evening three days a week I happily sling my pool cue case over left shoulder, being aware to keep back and shoulders in balance, and head out to practice pool at my favorite LW pool hall.


The return walk gives me a second mile, for a combined 36 to 37 minutes of feel-good-in-the-outdoors moderate aerobic and fat burning benefit.

Destination pulled me out the door and satisfied both Health and Hobby.

3. Essentrics® Aging Backwards in-person classes strengthen, stretch and invigorate us.

The 6-week Summer Series, sponsored by the City of Seal Beach began on July 8, 2022. Enrollment fee of $12.00 per class plus a $10 City registration fee may be pro-rated anytime through end of the series.
