INFLAMMAGING

The word Inflammaging popped out at me from my Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Fitness Level 2 course in 2019, while studying how to alleviate mobility dysfunction in golfers and the general population.

At once my brain recognized Inflammaging as the enemy against which I had been defending and mounting counteroffensives for years!

Whether spelled “Inflammageing” as in the UK, Australia and New Zealand or “inflammaging” as in the USA – our culprit is the same.

The welcome news is that we do not have to succumb to Inflammaging’s erosion until our very final days.

Similar to fighting the good fight of faith
* through character attributes, we can hold inflammaging at bay through judicious, continuous use of those well-known weapons Diet and Exercise!

Now is not our time to jump off the Healthy Living Bandwagon.

1. From Aging Research Reviews we learn that “Among the components of healthy diet, higher intake of whole grains, vegetables and fruits, nuts and fish are all associated with lower inflammation (Calder et al., 2011.)

2. From a Colorado State University Healthy Aging Center article on the Power of Exercise we learn about research on the “long-term benefits of exercise for avoidance of a chronic inflammatory state that may contribute to poor health and functional decline in aging adults.”

We are fired up! Senesence – the deterioration associated with aging – is NOT our destiny.

3. Essentrics® Aging Backwards in-person classes strengthen, stretch and invigorate us.

The 6-week Summer Series, sponsored by the City of Seal Beach will begin on July 8, 2022. Enrollment fee of $12.00 per class plus a $10 City registration fee may be pro-rated anytime through end of the series.
