Every year December 5th is observed by the United Nations as International Volunteer Day (IVD.)
IF EVERYONE DID…is the International Volunteer Day theme for 2023.
In addition to benefitting society, Volunteering can be good for mental health and fitness because it takes the mind off circumstances of our own lives.
It can be easy to over-Volunteer, particularly in leadership activities, since free workers are in short supply.
Certain times of our lives allow space for volunteering, though.
These seasons are when giving of our time and talents becomes a wonderfully beneficial two-way road.
Perhaps we have become empty-nesters, new retirees or a spouse or dear friend has passed away.
The void in our lives aches for meaningful fulfillment.
Enter Volunteering for a cause or activity with which we resonate in belief, experience or lifestyle.
We’ll find ourselves engaging with new people and discovering renewed purpose.
Growth opportunities in new skills also will present themselves.
If you have any business or office skills, Volunteering will provide amazing and challenging growth for your computer and technology skills.
Hallelujah for being able to stay somewhat current with younger generations!
Volunteering takes us out of the past and a “….Good old days” frame of thinking.
We become useful – a behavior trait which 12-Step Programs describe as foundational for healthy recovery.
Let’s consider giving of ourselves just a little. Life’s new doors await our opening. WF!
