Let’s call May another We Love Exercise Month. We’ll get off the couch for Fun and Healthspan – the period of our lives without major debilitating diseases.*
As seen in our running female graphic above, the body responds very favorably to exercise.
Running itself is not necessary for the body to receive these benefits. Brisk walking or other aerobic forms of exercise, plus strength training, will give us physiological health and longevity “bang for our buck” benefits that we do not find in medicine alone.
Since many of us may not understand the Healthspan terms listed above, here is direct link to the article Molecular Mechanisms of Exercise and Healthspan* from which our graphic was downloaded. The authors, Yuntian Guan and Zhen Yan, do a good job of translating these benefits into layperson language.
Quoting from the article’s summary…”exercise training remains the most potent “medicine” that preserves quality of life and expands healthspan. The molecular understanding of exercise impacts in different organ systems reinstates that exercise is the most powerful lifestyle intervention against chronic diseases.
Leaving scientific descriptions and quoting from WildFire”s personal experience…”Exercise revolutionized my life 48 years ago.”
“It gave me joy, a guiding lodestar through life’s up and downs and a Healthspan wealth that is worth more than words can convey.”
May you also treasure exercise and its benefits. WF!
