It happened innocently enough. I was in El Cajon, walking through the mall, heading toward the exit.
I felt a tickle in my throat…A cold? Something spicy was needed to cut that little irritation. Oh, No! The Wetzel’s Pretzels fast food shop appeared on my right with big Jalapeño Cheese Pretzels calling me from the display case. Over four years have passed since eating a pretzel – but on this fateful day it had been too long since lunch. Damage done. I ate the whole $4 tangy, salty, soft doughy (high glycemic carbohydrate) concoction before turning on the ignition to my car.
Next step was for me to Return to the Form, a phrase borrowed years ago from judo and karate about katas, the basic body positioning and movement exercises which martial artists practice over and over for skill development. Habitual, daily healthy dietary practices are the katas, the Form, upon which we preserve our health.
The throat tickle disappeared. Maybe those few jalapeño slices on that outrageous pretzel were needed after all. WF!

It’s true! It’s quite OK to “fall off the wagon”. As long as you return to the “plan” the next meal, you are OK. I remember years ago when I was on the Zone Diet, they stressed not to worry so much if you “cheated” on the diet on occasion, so long as you remained true to your dedicated plan. It was my very first diet in my 40’s and it worked for me. Everyone needs to find the plan that makes them feel comfortable and determined to succeed.
Agreed, Brenda. I also like to follow the 90% plan. If I choose what works for me 90% of the time – life works out just fine.
