This coming Wednesday, September 23, 2015, the earth’s northern hemisphere will enter the Autumnal Equinox at 1:21 Pacific Daylight Time. On Equinox dates (the other being the Spring, or Vernal Equinox) daytime and night last approximately the same number of hours.
For those who celebrate Pagan and Wiccan traditions, the Autumnal Equinox is called Mabon and represents a mid-harvest festival of thanksgiving and celebration. Tours are arranged for visiting ancient sites such as Stonehenge.
Here in San Diego we non-Wiccans can celebrate a less ritualistic Equinox by anticipating cooler weather, discovering Fall gourd vegetable recipes and filling our favorite vase with autumn-hued flowers. All those warm colors certainly will stoke the creative fire we are tapping into as part of our September self-improvement month. WF!
