The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines antidote as 1: a remedy to counteract the effects of poison; 2: something that relieves, prevents, or counteracts, e.g. an antidote to boredom.

Antidotes can come into play if we find daily resolve weakening and dedicated purpose wandering due to sustained, relentless effort in reaching…

  1. Health and fitness goals,
  2. Career accomplishments,
  3. Educational achievements,
  4. Non-profit volunteer work
  5. Skill level attainment in competitive pursuits,

Our powerful, beckoning antidote is called small goals.

Essence of this antidote is “Feel Good.”

Feel good happens when we reach a small goal, a marker toward which we were willing to work because we believed, we knew, we could get there.

Reaching that goal causes our brains to release dopamine, a neurotransmitter chemical messenger that allows nerve cells to communicate with each other.

Dopamine is often known as the “feel-good” neurotransmitter because it does just that—it makes us feel good, according to Dr. Ralph Ryback author of a Psychology Today article on accomplishing our goals. Dr. Ryback writes…”Each time your brain gets a whiff of this rewarding neurotransmitter, it will want you to repeat the associated behavior.”

Goals = Antidote = Feel Good.

Serve in small doses. Judiciously applied, almost-easy goals, become the joy along our journey. WF!
