SURE THING

During the last 40 years I have discovered one Sure Thing in regards to health, fitness and feeling fine at a weight that works for my body.

If trying to shed fat pounds, the sure-fire, not extreme tactic for keeping the scale moving in the right direction that has worked for me is to eat a light dinner early, meaning before 6:00 p.m..

By a light dinner, I mean containing no more than 300 calories. Here are a few examples:

1. A few tablespoon scoops of cucumber, garlic yogurt Tzatziki mixed with unsweetened non-fat Greek yogurt, to minimize fat content. Stir in a few cut-in-half cherry tomatoes for more texture and natural sweetness from the tomatoes. A few bites of Norwegian cracker Seeds & Grains Crisp-bread can be eaten on the side to bring in a salty flavor pop.

2. A two egg-white omelet, or one whole egg and one egg-white omelet, with nice helping of steamed broccoli. Top it with small bit of feta cheese and sliced tomato or watermelon on the side.

3. Medium-sized mixed green salad with green onions, tomato, cucumber and a few olive pieces. Add in 1/3 cut cooked chicken breast or tuna. No more than tablespoon of dressing of your choice.

3. Go in the cereal direction. About 3/4 cup Bran flakes, or multi-grain cereal, preferably non or minimally sweetened. Use skim, or 1% milk, or unsweetened soy milk – mix with sugar free protein powder. Add 1/2 cup blueberries or strawberries. Sprinkle on a tad of shredded coconut.

For extra-effectiveness do not be sedentary right after dinner.

Go for a walk, sweep the porch, dance around the living room, stand outside and talk to a neighbor, go play pool – (By the way I won a critical game at last week’s APA World Pool Championships in last Vegas.)

Do anything but plop down in front of the TV right after you eat.

Something about the light dinner gives our bodies time to digest the food more effectively. We wake up the next morning feeling lighter.

We step on the digital scale and there it is – a few ounces, maybe even a pound less.


Victory! The Sure Thing worked again. WF!
