ADMIT IT

Tell the Truth of Your Experience is a phrase I found in my morning Daily Meditation guide.*
The monthly theme was about vulnerability – not most people’s favorite subject.

Purpose of Telling the Truth of Our Experience is that honesty with ourselves about any current condition with which we may be dissatisfied, is the first step toward resolving that discontent.

Relating to health and fitness…one area of “Telling the Truth of Our Experience” is acknowledging how hard shedding excess fat pounds can be.

More than changing likes and dislikes of certain foods, we bump into a core difficulty of eradicating mind-body comfort habits.

Many of you know that in 2008, prior to the resurgence of my current fitness journey, I weighed 60 pounds more than right now.
Plus photos from adolescence show that I was a chubby child.

Since excess fat (adipose tissue) likes to call itself my friend, keeping that friendship healthy requires honesty and awareness that if I let them, fat cells, which never really go away, will take over my life.

What I, and many others, who have enjoyed successful over-fat loss and preventive lean body maintenance have discovered is three empowering facts of life:

1. Admitting to myself – that I am over fat, on the verge of obesity, and can’t seem to change the situation for any sustained amount of time becomes the first step to freedom.
This Telling the Truth of My Experience gets rid of denial and excuses I give myself about why the extra fat won’t go away.

2. Go inside, multiple times a day if necessary, and ask “What really is going on here?”
Is there a benefit to keeping this fat – is it a protective device? Do I eat extra large portions out of habit?
What drives my choices? Can I really not do any kind of exercise to rev up metabolism?

3. What can I do TODAY, this minute, this hour, to begin the journey to healthy weight?
Is there some small step – something that is not too hard – which my body, mind and spirit would like me to take toward healthy living?

These mental, behavioral, and emotional actions work.

They lead us to self-affirming, healthy choices in almost every area of life.

A long time ago the words were written… You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

The wonder of truth is that it is free for the taking.

How marvelous. WF!
