STARTING MONDAY

Writing a Health and Fitness blog leads me in the discovery of excellent online resources for topic of the week.
Today’s subject is Walking – which can be done while wearing my temporary healing buddy, an arm sling.

While researching Walking this past weekend, , I discovered The Monday Campaigns website… “a public health initiative associated with Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and Syracuse Universities that promotes sustainable behavior change by dedicating every Monday to health.”

After reading today’s quick post, you may want to give yourself a few minutes to click through the Monday Campaigns for a variety of healthy living guidelines.

Another good resourcethis Mayo Clinic article – reminds us that regular brisk walking can help:

  • Maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat
  • Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer and type 2 diabetes
  • Improve cardiovascular fitness
  • Strengthen your bones and muscles
  • Improve muscle endurance
  • Increase energy levels
  • Improve your mood, cognition, memory and sleep
  • Improve your balance and coordination
  • Strengthen immune system
  • Reduce stress and tension

Most of the above information is common knowledge for the majority of us.

Healthy habits require friendly reminders, repetition, reinforcement.

How about if this Monday, today, we give Frederick Lenz’s quote a chance… “What we focus on we become.”
