FOUR WORDS

Come Dance With Me are the four words Fourteenth Century mystic poet, Hafiz, wrote to capture ultimate spiritual relationship.

For our health and fitness purposes we interpret dance as any form of pleasurable, rhythmic movement – including cadence in military marching, or repetitions in a weight training exercise, or measured dance itself such as ballet, waltz, clogging, Zumba, etc..
(I have seen nursing home residents delightedly waving arms and tapping their feet in wheelchair-based Zumba Gold® classes.)

Movement is the essence of dance. In his most recent book, The Business of Movement: Principles, Patterns and Productivity, author Gray Cook, a practicing physical therapist and orthopedic certified specialist, writes that Movement is a vital sign of life.

Our ability to move freely and without pain, subject to population groups, according to Gray Cook, is as important a health indicator as are standard vital signs such as body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate and blood pressure.

Whether discovered through the Spirit of Hafiz or the Science of Gray Cook, the call to us is the same…

MOVE. Move freely, gracefully, powerfully, as pain free as we can, for entrance to life’s ecstasy.
