“Vegetables, fruits, nuts and grains are the diet constituted for us by the Creator” paraphrases a sentence from 19th Century health writer Ellen G. White, a founder of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In Dan Buettner’s book The Blue Zones Adventists are known for happily functional nonagenarians (90 to 99 years old) and centenarians. Mrs. White’s original quote started with “Grains;” however, we no longer are a hard physical labor agrarian population – so realigning emphasis of the healthy four listed above – with a little fish thrown in – (nod to the Okinawans, also referenced in Buettner’s book) seems to optimize nutritional practice for many.
I unabashedly credit high vegetable, nutritarian information provided by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. as being the dietary change agent in my fat loss.
